In Division 2, Knox won its first premiership since 2007 with a thrilling 16-point win over Doncaster East in the Division 2 grand final at Tormore Reserve.
The Falcons raced out of the blocks early to lead by 29 points at quarter time, holding the Lions goal-less for the quarter. Knox held the momentum for the second term, taking a seemingly insurmountable 39-point lead into the main break.
The decider looked all but over early in the third term when Knox led by as much as 45 points, but Doncaster East rallied to cut the margin to just eight points at the final change, courtesy of a James Locke goal after the siren.
The Lions’ momentum continued early in the final term, when Nick Batsanis soccered through an opportunistic goal to draw his side within a point at the four-minute mark.
But the Falcons held firm, led by Marcus Jordan, kicking two crucial final quarter goals to give his side a match-winning lead late in the game.
Jordan finished with five majors, and was awarded the Blue Ribbon Medal for best on ground.
