Knox Football Club will host a charity football day at Knox Gardens Reserve this Sunday to raise awareness for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.

The day will be held in memory of the late Evan Evans, who passed away after a short battle with brain cancer last April.

Evans was a former champion suburban footy player and is the games record-holder for St.Mary’s Salesian, which has joined forces with the Knox Falcons and Glen Waverley Hawks, where the seniors will play for the Evan Evans Cup.

Evans is survived by his two sons, Jake, 25, and Nathan, 22, who play for St Mary’s, and partner Sharon Billing and her three sons, including 23-year-old Mitchell who plays for the Hawks.

“Evan was a big part of a lot of people’s lives, I felt like I’d be letting him down if I didn’t try and do something (to raise awareness for brain cancer),” Billing told Leader Newspapers.

The event commences at 10.30am at Knox Gardens Reserve, Argyle Way, Wantirna South. Entry is $5 and the day will include food, drinks and raffle prizes to raise money.
