OFFICIAL STATEMENT – BLACKBURN FOOTBALL CLUB

The Blackburn Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Leeann Gill as its first senior women’s coach for 2018.

Leeann is no stranger to female football with extensive experience in leading both junior and senior women’s teams at club and representative levels.

Gilly, as she is affectionately known, was the state women’s coach, the first-ever state under-18 girls coach and for the past nine years has coached the state under-15/16 girls team.  More recently, she was the head coach at the Sandringham Dragons Youth Girls Academy. She has also coached both seniors and juniors at Rowville and senior women’s teams at Berwick and the Eastern Devils.

The appointment is somewhat of a coup for the Club which already has a very strong girls program and is keen to develop a strong senior women’s program.

Club president Matthew Breen said the Club is delighted to secure someone of Gilly’s calibre.

“She is an outstanding coach with an amazing ability to develop new players while also extending experienced players,” Breen said.

The Club undertook an extensive search to find the right coach for its women’s team.

“In securing Gilly, we have someone who shares the Club’s genuine passion for female football with a focus on fun, friendship and development,” Breen said.

Gilly has already played a major part in the development of Blackburn’s junior girls program having coached eight of our leading players in the state under-15/16 team and attending numerous clinics.

“With such an impressive CV, the Club is confident that Gilly will continue to grow our existing program to be one of the leading female football programs in the state,” Breen added.

If you want to play footy with a club that has a long history of supporting female football and learn from an amazing coach, then we would love to hear from you.
