Persistent injuries to Dustin Fletcher opened the door for the off-season recruit to play a prominent role in 2015. James Gwilt featured in the AFL side 11 times proving a reliable defender.
The 29-year-old has signed on for another season with the Bombers and given the departure of Jake Carlisle, will provide an important defensive option.
Gwilt’s flexibility was an attractive proposition for the Bombers, who secured him as a free agent at the end of last season. St Kilda cut the 28-year-old after 126 games with the club, including the two Grand Finals in 2010. Although most likely to hold down a role in defence, the Bombers see Gwilt as an option in attack and feel his addition can help free up one of their emerging young talls.
