VALE – Les “Mooch” Millar – Games Record Holder (433) – Blackburn FC

The Blackburn Football Club is in mourning following the recent passing of Les Millar, the club’s games record holder and a character of the game for the mighty Burners between the 1960s and the 1980s.

Les played over 130 games in the seniors and won nine (9) best and fairest awards for the reserves. He spent many years on the committee and as vice president.

He started at Blackburn in the under-16s and like many in the area went to Box Hill Tech. His nickname of ‘Mooch’ came from none other than life member Ron Eade who commented on a young Les always hanging around having a kick before the seniors trained, when as a young player.

Les went down to St Kilda to try out there but only played a handful of games in the under-19s before returning to Blackburn.

Les only just missed out on being selected in the club’s team of the century and will be sadly missed by friends and the Blackburn Football Club family. Our thoughts go out to his wife Jenny and son Brook.
