2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Coldstream

BLACKBURN Junior Football Club president Michael Johnson speaks to Sam Gastin as his club prepares for the 2014 season.

Sam Gastin: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

Michael Johnson: Definitely, we thought we had a very good year last year. We had two premierships, which we were very, very grateful to achieve. But as a club we were extremely happy with all sides, how they participated and what each team achieved throughout the year.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

We’re hoping to have two teams in every competitive age group, as well as two Under 10’s, three Under 9’s and two, or potentially, three girls sides. So that’s our aim this year.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

It’s always good at this time of the year. We’re getting to the busy stage now where all of our sides have now started pre-season. And I think everyone around the club is excited that footy is not that far away.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

I don’t really like to put a focus on that for junior football. As long as every side can achieve the best they can possibly achieve then as a president I’ll be very happy.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

We’d love a couple more Under 13’s or Under 15s. And always more Under 17’s as well. I think every club would love more Under 17’s. But those three groups we would love to see some more numbers there.

If any players are interested in playing for Blackburn Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?

Anyone that wants to play can go onto the website and complete registration online which is still open. Otherwise they can contact the secretary Terry Monterio or the Football Operations manager David Ramsdale. Details are on our website.
