SCORESBY is striving to ensure it remains a viable, sustainable Division 1 club for season 2014 and beyond.

The Magpies, who are currently struggling for senior and Under 19 players, have announced initiatives designed to give them the best chance of remaining a strong EFL club – short-term and long-term.

“The club requires a significant boost in both Senior and Under 19 playing numbers for the 2014 season. [We have] put numerous measures in place to try and achieve this,” the club said in a statement to its members.

“Our great club has had too much success and provided everyone with too many good times and good friends to be in a position of peril.”

One of those initiatives will see North Melbourne assistant coach and former Scoresby player Darren Crocker mentor the club’s coaches for the season.

Crocker, North Melbourne’s midfield coach, was named the AFL Coaches’ Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012. He helped the Kangaroos rise to No.1 in contested ball and stoppages in 2013.

Scoresby senior coach Gary Connolly is thrilled to have Crocker’s services for 2014.

“Having Darren on board will help ensure that training content and game day structures are at an elite level. It is a real coup for the club,” Connolly said.

Crocker and North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow will be taking Magpies training on Wednesday 5 February starting at 6pm.

A large crowd is expected at this session, with the club to run a barbecue, drinks at bar prices and a membership stand.

Scoresby is also putting measures in place to help it remain financially feasible.

Over 50 past players gathered prior to Christmas to see how they could assist the club. With financial stability high on the agenda, a suggestion was raised for individuals to donate $10 per week over 12 months through direct debit.

The initiative is in its early stages, with the club aiming for 50 people to sign up by 7 February.

“We are urging every Scoresby person to rally behind the club and these great initiatives and ensure the future of the club is secure,” the club said.

Scoresby is also seeking a major sponsor for the year. Any interested parties are encouraged to call Robert Hoffelner on 0418 346 678.
